📚💚 Junior Book Club Shines at the Will Garvey Foundation Trust School's Wellbeing Conference 2026 💚📚
On Tuesday 1st July, members of our Junior Book Club attended the Will Garvey Foundation Trust School's Wellbeing Conference at Breadsall Priory.
Students enjoyed inspiring presentations from author and therapist Julian Sedgwick and wellbeing advocate Becky Goddard-Hill, who shared valuable insights on supporting our own mental health and the wellbeing of others.
Our talented students also took to the stage to deliver their own presentation, exploring characters from The Illustrated Mum by Jacqueline Wilson and discussing how they could benefit from the school's wellbeing library.
Their creativity, confidence and presentation skills impressed everyone in attendance, and we couldn't be prouder of how brilliantly they represented our school.

Join us as we celebrate the rich cultures within our school community!
🍰 Culture Day Bake Off
Students are invited to enter a homemade baked item that represents their culture. This is a great opportunity to share a favourite family recipe, introduce others to your culture, and be in with a chance of winning a prize!
🎤 Open Mic at Lunchtime
Showcase your culture through music, singing, dance, poetry, or performance. Whether you're performing solo or with friends, we'd love to see and hear what makes your culture unique.
📝 How to Sign Up
Students can register for the Open Mic at Student Reception or in the Library.
Let's come together to celebrate diversity, learn from one another, and enjoy a day filled with culture, creativity, and community.

Inspiring Futures Through Dance
Over the past two weeks, our Performing Arts team have been delighted to welcome a range of professional organisations into school to deliver workshops for students across Key Stages 3 and 4. These sessions have been designed to broaden students' understanding of the many exciting pathways available within the performing arts industry, showcasing further education opportunities, professional training and career routes in dance.
We were thrilled to host Born to Perform, with workshops led by Lucy Fearn. Born to Perform is a performing arts organisation that provides young people with opportunities to develop their skills in dance, musical theatre and performance, encouraging confidence, creativity and progression within the arts.
Students also took part in inspiring workshops delivered by Danni Chell from FABRIC Centre for Advanced Training (CAT). FABRIC's Centre for Advanced Training is a nationally recognised, part-time training programme that supports talented young dancers aged 11–18, providing high-quality contemporary dance training and helping prepare those who wish to pursue further study or careers in dance.
Finally, we welcomed Mikaela Cleal from Burton and South Derbyshire College, who introduced students to the college's performing arts courses and discussed the progression routes available after GCSEs. Students gained valuable insight into vocational study and the opportunities that further education can provide for aspiring performers.
Perhaps the most heart-warming part of these visits was seeing two of the workshops delivered by former Lees Brook students who have gone on to build successful careers within the performing arts industry. Their journeys are a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and a passion for dance. They spoke honestly about their experiences, inspiring our current students to believe in their own potential and demonstrating that the foundations built during their time studying Dance at Lees Brook can lead to exciting opportunities within the creative industries.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to welcoming them back as part of our growing Lees Brook Performing Arts Alumni, where they will continue to inspire future generations of performers.
