During this term fifteen students in Year 9 have formed themselves into a business which they have named ‘Simply Seasonal’. The company has been set up as part of Young Enterprise an organisation working with schools across the UK to help develop the fundamentals of running a business.
On Monday 9th October, the students attended the launch of the South Derbyshire Young Enterprise programme at Derby County’s Pride Park stadium and took part in presentations about managing a business.
Running throughout one academic year, students will make all the decisions about their enterprise, from deciding on the name and product to creating a business plan, managing the student company finances and selling their products.
The students have taken on various Director Roles within the Company like the Managing Director, Company Secretary, Finance Director, Sales, Operations and Marketing.
The company did their first sales event at our Winter Fair on Friday 1st December selling Christmas Tree decorations which they designed using the school’s laser cutter and ornamental Cup Cakes designed by one of the company members. The students had a very busy evening and took sales amounting to over £100.00. Their next venture will be at St Andrew’s School Christmas Fair, Breadsall Hilltop on Thursday 7th December.
In the New Year it is hoped that they will be able to pitch their products at local trade fairs.
