The Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (VTCT) is equivalent to one GCSE grade A* - C grade. If learners do not achieve A* - C the grade would be U (unclassified); there is no Level 1 option for this subject.
This qualification has been designed to use the context of hairdressing and beauty therapy as a vehicle to support you to develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of the sector but more importantly of core academic knowledge and study skills that will support progression within hair and beauty therapy or more broadly.
The course includes, understanding and exploring the different industries which make up the sector, carrying out research projects, hair and beauty science, business enterprise and marketing and promotions.
This qualification is predominantly theory based and you will not be assessed on practical ability. As a result you will not have practical lessons on a weekly basis. However there will be some opportunity to gain practical experience of equipment, products and services to support your understanding of the sector.
The structure of this qualification will enable you to progress onto a broad range of study areas in further education, into an apprenticeship or into the workplace.
The Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (VTCT) aims to support young people to:
• develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of the hair and beauty sector
• develop a significant knowledge core which spans the entire vocational sector and related industries
• develop academic and study skills that will support progression within hair and beauty and more broadly
• provide opportunities to continue your studies at Level 3
The qualification is assessed by external written exam and 3 controlled assessments which are externally moderated.
Please note you will not do practical treatments on a weekly basis, however for most of your time you will be learning in The Skills Academy’s hair and beauty salons which require the highest standards of professional behaviour and health and safety; if you do not meet these standards you may be withdrawn form the course
