GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition equips students with an array of culinary techniques, as well as knowledge of nutrition, food traditions and kitchen safety.
Students will be able to make informed decisions about a wide range of further learning opportunities and career pathways, and develop vital life skills so that they can feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously.
The course is broken down in to the following sections:
· Food Preparation and Skills
· Food, Nutrition and Health
· Food Safety
· Food Science
· Food Provenance
· Food Choice
Course is broken in to three sections:
· Written exam—50% of the grade
· Food investigation task– 15% of the grade
· Written report (1500-2000 words)
· The Food Preparation Assessment– 35% of the grade
Portfolio of work and 3 main dishes to be cooked in a 3 hour time slot
Students are required to provide their own ingredients for this course. Students will be cooking weekly/fortnightly.
Other Food qualifications may be offered that are equivalent to GCSE, for example a Level 1/2 Technical Award in Food and Catering
