GCSE RESULTS HEADLINES 2019

For the 3rd year in a row, Lees Brook results show a fantastic improvement. I am extremely proud of how well the students have done.

The percentage of students achieving a level 4 in both English and Maths has jumped from 52% in 2017 to 62% in 2018 and now to an incredible 70% this year. English exceeded all expectations, 82% got a level 4 in either English Language or Literature. Maths also made huge improvements, with 75% of students gaining a level 4 (up from 65% last year.) The percentage of students achieving a level 5+ in both English and Maths also remains strong.

There have been incredible individual performances, with one student in particular achieving 8 level 9s and a level 8, which is a phenomenal achievement. The number of students achieving a level 9 grade has also increased again this year.

These results are really impressive – but I am also very proud of the fact that Lees Brook works hard to ensure that our students also become well rounded young people who thrive in the world of work. Last year, all of our Year 11 students went into education, employment or training. I am very confident that this Year 11 cohort will be equally successful.

Lees Brook continues to go from strength to strength. I would like to say a special thanks to staff and students who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve an excellent set of results

Headteacher's Welcome

Lees Brook Community School (LBCS) is a school that puts its students at the heart of everything it does. The school’s motto ‘Lead, Believe, Create, Succeed’ was chosen by our students and is at the core of everything that we do.

It is a school that cares for the people within it. Within our safe, successful and positive learning community we promote a high performance learning culture that allows everyone to be the best that they can be. I believe that every student can be a high performer regardless of their ‘ability’ and this is an expectation of all staff for each student in the school.

We aim to produce students who can think for themselves, who are socially confident, and who have the skills to succeed in further education, work and in life. As a school, we offer a wealth of extra-curricular activities and opportunities to our students and we have excellent relationships with a large range of employers from local businesses to global companies such as Bombardier and Rolls Royce. I am particularly proud of the fact that all of our 2018 leavers went into education, employment or training and since 2016 this figure has consistently been over 99%. This success is founded on a wide range of career learning opportunities within the curriculum and our focus on high quality, meaningful encounters with employers. Academic outcomes are important to the success of any school, however, I strongly believe it is as equally important to produce well rounded young people who will go on and thrive in the world of work.

I am delighted that the school continues to go from strength to strength. Our academic outcomes continue to improve and we are constantly building on the educational opportunities that our students are offered. Lees Brook is now one the leading Duke of Edinburgh providers in the city with over 140 students currently completing either the bronze or silver award.

I arrived at Lees Brook as a student teacher in 1997 and have been here for 22 years. I am immensely proud to now be the Headteacher and feel extremely privileged to work with students, staff, parents, governors and a local community who all expect the very best from our school.
